Dublin Buddhist Centre

Liberty Corner

A new premises for the Dublin Buddhist Centre in the very heart of Dublin.

The story so far

Since 1990, the Dublin Buddhist Centre (DBC) has been offering yoga, meditation and Buddhism classes to the public. Over that time we have also taught meditation in the private sector (e.g. Unilever PLC, BOI Private Banking) and in the public sector (e.g. the HSE North East, DCU Innovation Unit).

We have taught in primary and secondary schools and we regularly run classes in universities. Over this time we estimate we have taught about 7,500 people to meditate and another 7,200 people have learnt yoga.

In recent years we have started to reach out to more vulnerable populations, teaching mindfulness-based stress related techniques to individuals through our 'Blue Sky' programme, our work with MS Ireland and with 'Fresh Start', a scheme designed by FAS to facilitate re-entry into the workforce by people recovering from depression.

As well as what we offer the general public, some of us have chosen to become part of a thriving Buddhist community that has grown up around the centre, some choosing to live and work together in the heart of modern Dublin.

The future

To secure existing work and to expand the future work of the DBC, we have purchased a ground floor unit in a modern award-winning building located at Liberty Corner, on James Joyce Street, Dublin 1.

Having our own home means we are in a strong position to free up finances currently tied up in rent, enabling us to support more people to work at the centre and, in time, enabling us to expand our work around the country.

What this actually means is that we can reach out to people in areas where there is a demand we can't currently meet.

We will also be accessible to more people than ever before because the new premises is located just off Talbot Street on the north side of the city centre, right on the doorstep of Busáras and the DART and LUAS at Connolly Station, in an area that has been regenerated substantially over the last five years.

The building is comprised of apartments, The LAB (a mixture of office space, performance & exhibition space) and Dance Ireland. There will also be a crèche housed in the building.
