April 15th, 2008 — General
As of Tuesday 1st April the Dublin Buddhist Centre was open for classes in our new venue on Liberty Corner, 5 James Joyce Street, Dublin 1! The move went smoothly, and the keys to our old place on Leeson Street Lower were handed in to our landlord for that premises and we went forth from the world of rented property.
After quite a bit of work by the builders, our painting team, our moving team and by all the people who help clean up and tidy our new premises, we now have a shiny new Buddhist centre, and the response from people coming in has been extremely positive.
So we look forward to seeing you there! Keep an eye on this post - we’ll be adding some pictures soon.
With metta,
Vajrashura.

Exactly three months after we launched the Liberty Corner Appeal it is fantastic to report that we have raised nearly two thirds of our target of €70,000. So far we have raised a total of €46,132 in pledges and donations from many of you who want to see our work continue far into the future. Thank-you, thank-you, thank-you!
Now we are asking those of you who have not yet made a donation to do so. We still need to raise €23,878 to help us put down a floor, put in partition walls, fit the space with toilets and a kitchen area. We really need your help to reach our target as soon as possible. The sooner you give (i.e. today!) the quicker we can start the building work, move out of our current location and not waste precious finances on paying rent as well as our mortgage.

“The greater danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high and we miss it, but that it is too low and we reach it” - Michelangelo
Ratnabandhu will once again be running one of his legendary Vision & Transformation weekend workshops to help with the new centre fund-raise.
Here’s what he said about the workshop:
“Being committed to the spiritual path is not the same as knowing what you want to do with the nitty-gritty of your everyday life. You may be committed to spiritual practice but do you know with absolute clarity just what it is you want to manifest in the area of relationship, money, health, livelihood etc?

The Saddharma Pundarika or White Lotus Sutra is a Buddhist work dating from the 1st centre (CE). It has been described as one of the most important of all Mahayana Sutras and is said to speak the language of images, stories, myth and symbol. Its scope is as universal as sci-fi while its meanings are as personal and unfolding as infinitely blooming flowers…
Pavara and Greg O’Brien will facilitate the day’s reading which will be punctuated by short meditations and lunch. So please, do come and join us for any or all of the event.

A message from Penny, who’s off to the mountains of the Himalayas:
I will be embarking upon an 18 day trek in the Nepalese Himalaya towards the end of November. I will be arriving in Kathmandu on the 21st of Nov. and 2 days later, with Phul, my intrepid guide (who wears a pink woolly hat with a bobble, no kidding), we will be setting off on a truely gruelling trek, covering 300 km, braving the rigours of a Nepalese winter, and climbing to altitudes of over 5,ooo metres.

On October 29th Gustavo Nicolosi will be running the Dublin Marathon as a way of raising money for the Liberty Corner appeal. Here he is explaining why:

It was only a few years ago when I walked into the Centre enquiring about a meditation course being announced on their website, since then a natural link to the Meditation Practice and Buddhism in general has been growing stronger. The most clinical explanation as to why somebody may get attracted to Meditation has been probably given, in one of the retreats that I have attended, by my Friend “J” - “Intuition”, he answered when asked.
I thus intuitively value the work done by my tireless Friends in the Centre and I’d very much appreciate your financial contribution. Just weeks ago, more than fifteen years after the movement was started in Dublin, the Centre bought their first home, therefore any extra contributions are very much needed at this stage.
